Founded in 1857 as The Laclede Gas Light Company (now known as Spire Inc) is a public holding company that deals in the purchase, retail distribution, sale, and marketing of natural gas through its subsidiaries namely Alabama Gas Corporation (Alagasco), EnergySouth, Inc. and Laclede Gas Company. In addition to gas service, Spire also engages in the transportation and storage of liquid propane, compression of natural gas, oil production, real estate development, risk management, and also financial investments in other enterprises.
