How to free up storage on iPhone or iPad?

When you get a new iPhone or iPad, you have all the storage space on your device at your disposal.

However, over the months and years of using this device, the storage space starts to dwindle. Especially if you install a lot of apps, add media like photos, videos, and music, and eventually reach a point where you start to run out of space.

If you’re running out of space and don’t know what to do, check out the tips below that will show you various ways to clean up unwanted junk on your phone or tablet to free up more storage space.

Previously, Apple did not allow users to delete the default application. That means the default application will still be there even if we never use it. However, on iOS 10 Apple lets users delete the app. Ways to delete iPhone and iPad built-in apps:

  • Open settings
  • Select the General menu, then iPhone Storage
  • Click the application you want to delete
  • Then select Offload App or Delete App
  • If you find that you need this application, open the App Store and look for the application to reinstall.

Move photos to Cloud

One way to free up your internal storage is to move photos and other media to the Cloud. Luckily Apple has its own cloud app that is iCloud.

This move will not delete photos from your iPhone. You can still see the photos in the Cloud with a small view. And if you click on the photo, it will be downloaded in its original resolution. Method to move photos to iCloud:

  • Go to settings
  • Select Photos
  • Turn on iCloud Photos and select Optimize iPhone Storage

Lower the video quality

The latest iPhones are equipped with video capture capabilities in 4K format at 60fps. In one minute, this format can produce a video of 400 MB, much larger than 720p HD at 30fps which is only 40 MB per minute.

If you don’t really need a high-resolution video, we recommend setting the video to a lower format. Here’s how:

  • Go to settings
  • Select Camera
  • Select Record Video
  • And click on the video settings option you want.

Use special programs to clear iPhone and iPad memory

Third-party developers offer many utilities (for example, iPhone Care Pro or PhoneClean) that will automatically help you get rid of unnecessary temporary files.

It happens that after using it, several gigabytes of memory is freed on the device at once. Using these utilities is very simple: they all have an intuitive interface.

Factory reset iPhone or iPad

If all methods do not have a noticeable effect, you can resort to radical measures: erase all content and settings of your device.

It is important to realize that after this procedure, all files will be deleted on the device and it will be restored to factory settings.

Therefore, you should be careful in backing up your data first.

You can factory reset your iPhone or iPad this way: go to Settings, go to General, choose Reset iPhone and click on Erase All Content and Settings.

These are some simple measures to free up the space of your device.

It is best to practice doing these steps regularly so that everything stays in order.
