Snapchat is one of the most popular social networks and is apparently used by more than 160 million people. Snapchat does what it can to provide its users with the optimal user experience.
But some recent bug experiences of users in this app are forcing them to think of an alternative option. Although Snapchat’s user interface has remained easy and smooth to use, users are now reporting some annoying bugs.
In a recent wave of complaints filed on Twitter by Snapchat users, they are reporting a new error that has forcibly disconnected users from their accounts and when they try to get back to it, it says that their account is compromised and locked. Despite hundreds of attempts to recover their account, users are unable to do so.
Taking into account the concerns of its users, Snapchat has come forward to talk about this error. They have described three options to fix this issue.
Download the latest version of Snapchat
The first reason this error was triggered as reported by Snapchat is that you may not have downloaded the latest version of Snapchat.
The latest version that has fixes for this bug is 18.104.22.168. You can download this Snapchat update on your phone to get rid of this worrying error.
If the above solution doesn’t work, Snapchat has advised the users to click the “forgot password” link on the app’s login page. By resetting your password, you will be able to access your account along with your important memories. To reset your password you have to follow the steps mentioned below:
- First, click the Ghost icon, or scroll down and click the Settings icon. In your Snapchat settings, make sure your email address and phone number haven’t changed.
- Then click on ” Password ” and change your password by entering your current password and entering a new one.
Contact Snapchat Support
Finally, if you are still having trouble logging into your account, you should contact Snapchat support to get it fixed. Follow the steps mentioned below:
- Go to the Snapchat support page at https://support.snapchat.com.
- Select policy and security.
- Select Report a Security Issue.
- Select I think my account has been compromised.
- First, the support team will prompt you to click on forget my password. Assuming you’ve already tried this and it didn’t work, select Yes next to I still need help.
- Select “No” when Snapchat asks, “Did you manage to reset your password or sign in?”
- Fill out the form as accurately as possible and send it.
Snapchat support may give you account access again, allowing you to create a new password. However, they will only do this if they are satisfied with your responses on the form. They need to be sure that the account you are trying to access is actually yours.
Most of the users who have encountered the Snapchat account compromised and locked error have reported that they were able to fix this error by downloading the latest version of the app. While very few reported having fixed this error by resetting their account password. Other users are advised to consult Snapchat support to resolve the issue.
You can simply write an email to Snapchat Customer support team to get rid of this troublesome error.
Method to know if your Snapchat account has been compromised
There are several ways to find out if your Snapchat has been compromised.
Unusual activity in your Snapchat account
Spotting unusual action in your Snapchat account is usually the first sign that indicate someone else is using your personal Snapchat account. If you see snaps that don’t belong to you, new friends you haven’t made, or suddenly follow people you haven’t followed, your account may be compromised. These unusual activities can be easier to detect if you are a regular Snapchat user rather than a casual user.
Using a Snapchat logins account, you can view the instant map associated with your account.
Having to log into Snapchat all the time
Using more than one mobile devices to login to Snapchat often means that one will disconnect when the other is connected. If someone has accessed your account, you may notice more frequent login prompts.
Usually, a Snapchat connection will last for a while until you manually sign out, restart the Snapchat app or restart your device. Occasionally, your account may get signed out due to an app or device issue, but if you find that you need to keep signing back into your account, it could be a sign that someone else is signing in and forcing you to log out. This is by no means definitive, but it is a sign that you need to dig deeper into it.
Unusual Snapchat notification emails
Snapchat monitors account activity and will notify you via email if any modifications are made to your account. If the username or password is changed, for example, you will be notified through an email.
If someone signs in from a completely different location, Snapchat should spot them and alert you.
If you start seeing these kinds of notifications, you need to take action.
So these are some ways you can protect your Snapchat account and prevent it from being compromised.
