Registration/ Sign Up
The first thing before using Etrade is to create an account. Follow the steps detailed below to create an account:
Step 1. Open the Etrade website from your browser, or click here.
Step 2. Locate the Open an account on the top right corner of the page, click on it.
Step 3. Next, you need to select an account type. Determine which account you want to open and select the right option.
Step 4. If you chose the Brokerage account, you will again an option to select:
- Individual account that you would open for yourself.
- A joint account that you would want to open with someone else be it your business partner or any other family member.
- Custodial account that you would open for a minor.
Step 5. Click on Continue.
Step 6. Next, a page will pop asking you if you are an existing customer or a new one. Select I AM NEW TO ETRADE and then enter your Name, Email Address, and click on Continue.
Step 7. Now, enter your personal information like your DOB, Marital status, country, etc. Answer the questions that are asked.
Step 8. Then finally provide information that will be used to create your investment profile. After entering all the information, click on Continue.
Step 9. Select to link your account with your bank account so it will be easier for you to add money to your Etrade wallet.
Step 10. If you have chosen RETIREMENT ACCOUNT, you will be asked to choose from 4 options- Traditional IRA, Rollover IRA, Roth IRA, and SEP IRA. Choose the one you prefer and click on Continue.
Step 11. The next process from further on is the same as mentioned in step 6 onward.
Step 12. If you clicked on Bank Account account type on Etrade, the next page will pop up with multiple options for you to choose from.
Step 13. Select the option you prefer and click on CONTINUE and follow the same method as mentioned from step 6 onward.
After you have created an account, go ahead and log in to Etrade.
Step 1. Go to the Etrade website if you know, or else click here.
Step 2. On the top right corner, you will see the LOG ON button, click on it.
Step 3. Enter your Username and Password. Click on LOG ON.
If you will be using the same device, then you can check the box that says REMEMBER USER ID
That's it, you have successfully logged into your Etrade account.
Reset Etrade Password and User ID
If you forget your Etrade User ID or Password, don't worry! it's easy to reset or retrieve your username and password. Try the following steps:
I. Go to the Etrade homepage or click here.
Step 2. From the homepage, click on Log on. Once on the login page, spot an option FORGOT USER ID OR PASSWORD?
Step 3. If you have forgotten your User ID click on the USER ID link.
- Enter the Email Address associated with your E*TRADE account(s), then click on the SUBMIT button.
Step 4. If you want to change or reset your Etrade password, click on FORGOT THE PASSWORD option on the login page.
Step 5. Next, you will be asked to enter your User ID and then click on SUBMIT.
Step 6. The next step is going to be the same for retrieving both User ID or Password. Enter the information that you had provided while registering an account in Etrade.
Step 7. After entering all the information correctly click on the CONTINUE button.
These are the simple method to change your Etrade password or user ID.
Deactivate or Delete Etrade account
If for some reason, you want to close your Etrade account, then the important thing that you need to do is take all the cash out and maintain the balance of your account to 0. Then follow the steps mentioned below to delete or deactivate your Etrade account:
Step 1. First, log on to your account.
Step 2. From your account, open the chat feature and then click on the account you want to close.
Step 3. Now scroll down and find the ACCOUNT SERVICES. You will also see the option CLOSE ACCOUNT, click on it.
Step 4. Next, they will ask for a reason and give you certain options. Select an option and click on SEND.
Step 5. The closure process might take a while but you will get an email confirming that your account is closed. If you do not receive an email from Etrade, contact customer care support.
When you open an account in Etrade, you need at least $ 500 to open a brokerage account. As with most brokers, you can fund your account through an electronic transfer from your bank or other financial institution, make a deposit at an ETRADE branch, or send a check in the mail.
